Liz Lesperance is a contemporary artist best known for her expressive portrayal of horses in pastoral landscapes, and for her paintings of North American wildlife.

Liz was born and raised in rural Ontario, Canada. Her passion for the countryside and all things equine was installed in early childhood. This lifelong passion—for horses and for the land they inhabit—is evident in her every canvas. Her paintings have a soft, refined quality of realism that emphasizes light and design. Each piece reveals a palpable empathetic connection with the personality and nature of animals.

Horses were the subject of Liz's earliest paintings and paved the way for her acceptance into art college. She built a successful early career as a commercial illustrator, but always felt a strong calling toward her first love—portraiture. The burgeoning popularity of wildlife art in the 1980s saw her transition from a commercial artist to a full-time fine artist when her representational wildlife paintings gained her widespread recognition across Canada.

Inspired to explore new vistas, Liz moved to the US where she stayed for the next fourteen years, exhibiting across the country and gaining a strong collector base. She has lived in some of the most stunning West Coast horse country, but it was her years in Santa Ynez Valley, California—known throughout the equestrian world for its impressive ranches—that had the most profound impact on her art. The valley's renowned beauty evoked her childhood love of countryside and she found a renewed joy in plein-air painting forays.

In 2010, Liz followed her increasing desire to return to her Canadian roots. Now settled on the banks of southwest Ontario's historic Grand River, Liz finds felicity and inspiration in the gentle, shifting lights of the northern seasons. Her work continues to grow and unfold, expressing her love of the equine and her deep-rooted connection with the world around her.

Liz is a member of Oil Painters of America, the California Art Club, and the Society of Animal Artists. She is represented by The Sportsman's Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia, Paderewski Fine Art in Beaver Creek, Colorado and Buckingham Fine Art in Uxbridge, Ontario.
